Unable to sell bag

I cannot seem to sell my bags back to the street vendor. When I drag them to the target area in the street spirit's dialogue, it says "Drop bag at your feet". If I release the bag over the drop area it ends up on the ground instead of selling it. It happens in both firefox (3.6.12) and safari on mac.

• and I can't have more than three bags... can't buy a different coloured bag...even with open slots. To get a bigger green bag I had to empty out everything from a plain bag, discard it and then get the new bigger bag and put all the items I had back into it.

  FWIW, my vote is to be able to auction or sell discarded bags. Lots of early quests would benefit from having to time/fundraise for a discarded bag auction.
