Problems loading game

Problem fixed, but please read this post!

-----

What happened? Incorrect DNS was promoted, causing everyone trying to connect to our game servers failed. We fixed that, but you may have old DNS information cached either in your computer, or on the network. Sometimes proxies or local routers cache DNS and aren't updated from trying to flush cache on your local system.

*******If rebooting your computer or normal cache clearing doesn't work, try restarting any network equipment you have. There is a chance you may just need to wait it out until your local DNS catches up. We are very sorry about this!*******

-----
Over an hour later, we think players should all have the updated DNS. If you still have problems with DNS, please open a help ticket. We're going to close this topic so unrelated issues are not posted to it.

Hey all! Some of you may have problems loading the game. Don't feel alone!

We are working on it right now!

  • Folks, the problem should be resolved, but you may need to freshen up your DNS.

WHAT? HOW DO I DO THAT?!

On a Mac, open Terminal.app and do this command:

    sudo dscacheutil -flushcache

You will be asked for a password.

On a PC, there is a pretty good write up on how to do it on this site:

    www.tech-faq.com/how-to-flu...

I'll try to distill it in an edit to this post if you don't read through it fast enough. (Or simply reboot your computer if you don't want to sit through all that. :)

So for Windows, open a DOS shell, then run this command:

    ipconfig /flushdns

If you don't know how to open a DOS shell, you are probably better off either reading that link above, or just rebooting. If the above didn't work, try rebooting.

If *that* didn't work either, try restarting your network's router. In extreme cases, you may just need to wait it out, but it shouldn't be too long.

A thousand apologies everyone! What a pain!

  • So, some DNS entries changed, and we need to be resolving the hostname(s) to the new IPs?  If so, does that mean to connect we might have to flush the DNS cache in our local routers?
Posted 12 years ago by Zombie Elf Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I also flushed DNS, and nothing :(
Posted 12 years ago by Hatchetface Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Zombie Elf, as a matter of fact my fingers have been flailing away updating posts about that. Yes, that may be needed.

dns issues are fun, aren't they? Haha, I don't envy you guys.
Posted 12 years ago by Diana Banana Subscriber! | Permalink
  • kevbob, you guys have my massive sympathies.  I know all about dealing with DNS change propagations... it will all be resolved in a matter of time, but people can be impatient.

  • Okay...so, I get this: "WARNING: Improper use of the sudo command could lead to data loss
or the deletion of important system files. Please double-check your
typing when using sudo. Type "man sudo" for more information."

Do I just abort, or carry on? Reboot?
    I are confused.

  • hey kevbob do we have to be off the internet for the dns to flush
Posted 12 years ago by ShawnLabs Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @kevbob: Thanks for the info, but if I mess up something in the terminal application I might mess up my mac and he's my best friend. I mean, let's just keep Murphy's law in mind :)

Just take your time, we're all patient little glitches and I'll just chew some oregano if I can't get a hold of any purple :)
Posted 12 years ago by Pavida Subscriber! | Permalink
  • SJoeLab, you can be on the internet when you flush DNS
Posted 12 years ago by Zombie Elf Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Pavida- sudo-ing that exact command will not mess up anything. It asks your computer to re-fetch DNS information, which is used to translate web addresses with something networks understand. Feel free to just reboot if you are scared though. We actually are done with what we needed to do, so I am afraid it's all upon you to try it now to get back in. :)

  • Did any glitchies here get it to work yet?

Posted 12 years ago by Diana Banana Subscriber! | Permalink
  • If I may ask, what is the hostname that had a DNS entry change and what is it supposed to resolve to now?
Posted 12 years ago by Zombie Elf Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Can someone also tell what my password is? ;-P Rebooting doesn't do it for me.
