New Upgrades for Inventory Management

Hey everybody. We have just released 2 new upgrades to help with inventory management: Stack Up and Internal Sortitude.

Stack up will combine non-maxed item stacks in your pack to minimize the space used by all of your items.
www.glitch.com/upgrades/per...

Internal Sortitude will allow you to categorize your bags. If a bag is categorized, any items you acquire that match that category will automatically go in (assuming there's space). For example, you can categorize a bag for emblems and any emblems you pick up will automatically go in that bag. The categories will not prevent you from doing what you want; you can still place whatever items you want in whatever bag you want, but the game will be smarter at where it puts new items picked up.

Once you've acquired these upgrades, the options will become available in the bag's menu.

Enjoy,
Tim

  • Lovely, yay!

It would be nice if we could un-name a bag, to take advantage of the self-naming convention.

Or I could just go to one of several cabinets full of bags... :)

  • this is /awesome/!!!! (much more useful than the non-useful master gardener stuff) so thanks TS!

Question: is stack-up an active action (i.e. you must select one bag and hit "stack up" to make all items stack or is it passive in that items added automatically stack? it appears active when it would be much more useful as passive.
sub-question: if it is active you only have to select this on one bag and it updates for all bags you carry, correct?

  • I was sooo hoping "Stack Up" would increase max stack size when I read the tweet.

I would totally pay 25,000i each for cards that increase stack size across a category (+50 to animal products, for instance.)

  • @Snowpuff, it stacks across all bags.

  • Stacking emblems? Please?
Posted 11 years ago by JohnaMarie Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Snowpuff, It's active. You'll have to "stack up" every time you want your items to stack. It will also work across all bags. It's much more useful organizing your whole inventory, not just one bag.

  • Great idea but it seems buggy. I selected staples A which is milk meat grain, but when I stacked it only puts the milk in.

  • Awesome !
So if the rest of your bags are full will items you pick up go into the "emblem" bag or only if you put them in.  Do they have to be in a specific order in your inventory, say if the emblem bag is the first one will grain from a chicken still go in those empty slots or skip it and go into the second bag ?

  • Took the thoughts right out of my mind.  Nice work TS
Posted 11 years ago by WaxMan Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Teena. Stack up isn't related to the categories of Internal Sortitude. Stack up will just minimize the number of total stacks in your inventory by combining multiple non-max stacks as much as possible.

  • Cool beans! Thank you,TS!
Posted 11 years ago by GreyGoose Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @BlackWolf Yes, if your other bags are full any item picked up will go into your emblem bag. All that internal sortitude is doing is choosing the best bag for the item.
No, order wont matter. If you have an emblem bag and non-categorized bag, any non-emblems will go into the non-categorized bag.

  • *secret hint* You cant categorize toolboxes, but they will automatically sort to tools, so any tools you pickup will just go into your toolbox. Handy!

  • First time I regret buying an upgrade; I organize my bags so different from the options I get it's only useful for the music blocks.

But really happy with the stacks!

  • could probably use a gems sort, and a combined "food and drink" sort

shot in the dark: It's kind of clunky, and I'm betting you don't want to add too many requests.  So maybe someday a check box menu, like with preferences, selected from the bag, and the ability to choose our own combinations.  That would be sweet.

Seriously awesome, many times requested, thanks folks!

  • I have almost re-sorted all of my bags and I find myself wishing for a food-ish category (cooking, maybe?) so honey and cheese have a home. I could use a potions category too.

And I love it. Once I adjust to sorting my bags a new way this is going to be fantastic.

Edit: correction, butter & cheese seem to sort into Staples.

  • OMGiants I love you TS! I am the most un-organized person ever, no kidding. This will really help.
Posted 11 years ago by Akane Tuna Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I have to correct my correction. Butter and cheese only appeared to be sorting into one of my Staples bags because that bag happened to be 2nd from the left & the first bag was full. They're just going wherever the leftmost empty slot is, even if it's in a bag that is supposed to only take something different [[and there are empty slots in bags sorted for "All" available]  <- oops. corrected below]. Somebody tame my cheese!

ETA: I figured out that bags don't necessarily default to accepting "All" I actually had to flag it and then I got my cheese to at least go and sit with the other uncategorized stuff. It would still be nice if it had a real home.

  • I haven't tried it yet but I have to say these upgrades are the best ever! I've been waiting for a long time for a better method of sorting. I'm very anal retentive and it drives me crazy having to sort my bags. I honestly haven't really used the search function. This will help me tremendously! Thanks!

  • Excellent update!

I also agree with saucelah that a checkbox implementation would be an improvement.
With checkboxes we could define our own bags, like

bag1: upgrade tickets *and* race tickets
    bag2: crops *and* meals
    bag3: powders *and* potions
bag4: emblems *and* music blocks *and* toys

Additionally, If a general bag is placed before an herbology bag, picking up herbs will still stuff them in the general bag. I think the general bags should be used as a last resort!

  • SCRIPTS, I would like to assign a bag for scripts please.
Posted 11 years ago by oscarette Subscriber! | Permalink
  • @Zen Biped: Agreed. I'd also like the option to assign just one item to a bag, not a whole category. It would be a good tool for hoarders:)

@oscarette: or a Scripts and Notes category. The paper things.
