I still have my camera. They didn't dissappear. Unless you just mean they aren't being sold any more {i didn't check that} - but I have a feeling they are going to be used for something else {why else would they specifically told us not to get rid of them yet?}.

I'd imagine that the cameras are collectibles now. Why would they remove them from vendors if they were going to be used for something else?

I'm fairly certain that "something else" won't be much more than some random toy action similar to the actions performed by the new rares. TS never makes rare items a requirement for any action that's a significant part of gameplay (e.g., I heard it suggested that cameras would now be used to take videos; this wouldn't be something they'd only make available to a small segment of the player base). Although I really wouldn't hold my breath for the ability to take videos. That would involve a tremendous amount of space for TS to store them on their servers (as in, if people took videos like they now take snaps, they'd probably need double the server space they currently occupy within a week).

I think that you now get given a camera when you purchase the Snapshot upgrade card, but can't test this to double check.

I got a camera when i got the upgrade, i swore, because i had previously sold mine and then got a second one. since i don't take screen shots i can't imagine i would have purchased a second.

I only JUST learned the trick of using the camera item rather than the C key to take snaps (this allows you to take a snap of an open dialogue window, which C can't do). So I intend on keeping the item in my inventory forever, no matter what.
