Modal-less-ness

Have you considered havin' the modal states of dialogs going away, and making it just vanish if you click/interact with something else, or move away?

  • i would appreciate this so very much.

having to manually select "never mind" became very annoying after a time.

  • I remembered about halfway through the play today that the Escape key also closed the dialogs. It was faster than "never mind" but the escape keys is kind of out of the way. It is not intended for regular use. It forced me to shift out of normal keyboard fingering.

  • yes. esc is too far. c or v would be better.

but best of all would be to not have to rely so heavily on a shortcut at all, and just "click off" to dismiss.

  • I agree with this too. Click off would be very much appreciated. I was thinking of writing this exact post, actually.

  • Yes, I kept trying to click off. I like that idea.

  • Click-off would work ... I think we haven't thought of that before since almost all of us play the game with just the keyboard (so esc is not so far away and arrow keys to the menu options work).

Also, maybe we'll see about old Windows-style underlined first letters of the verb menus where you can shortcut to that letter to perform the verb ("n" to skip to "never mind"). Curious: where does "c" or "v" come from?

  • I think C and V are the copy and paste keys.... though when I first read that, I was instead thinking control, option, and command neighborhood, not actual letter keys.

  • c or v comes from having my left hand either on the track pad, or [more often] on the space bar for jumping.

c and v are close to both of those.

  • c can also stand for "close"

  • Click-off is now done.
