Dim the lights so I can see glowy furniture

I would like to choose to dim the lights in my house/tower so that the furniture/decorations and especially lights would be more prominent.  I love glowy stuff!

• +1 to have the overall house / tower light as a customization, either global or per floor. Maybe with 6 or so levels from dark to fully lighted.
  
  Light sources we add would be much more meaningful, with say spots for objects we have on display in museums.
