Prompting Outfit Changes

unlike most avatar systems i've seen, there are a bunch of clothes in glitch that interest me despite my severely limited colour preferences.

that said, i'm having difficulty justifying dropping 3 bucks on an item of virtual clothing that is only "as good" as some other one i like and would wear almost all the time in order to be more instantly recognizable to friends.

the following are suggestions of things that might prod me into changing my outfit more often.

1] clothes that have game-play benefits, like a Miner's Helmet improving mining skill. this would prompt changing outfits depending on the environment.

2] clothes get dirty, so that after a certain period of use they get dingy looking and your mood starts to drop. unused clothes would "clean themselves up" over time, and you could do laundry to speed this process. this would prompt changing outfits on a regular basis.

3] clothes that have a "schmancyness" rating. going into certain "fancy schmancy" locations while wearing clothes below a certain schmancyness rating would lead to a drop in mood due to violating the dress code.

4] clothes that are event specific. things like party hats. perhaps these could be handed out by the evet hosts.

other suggestions for prompting outfit changes would be appreciated.

p.s. regarding laundry .. it would be really cool to have a backyard laundry line where clothes hang up to dry, although that might be impossible given the existing art assets. it might not look as good as a front facing view but perhaps using the "climbing mode" versions of the clothes could work on a clothesline.

  • Oooh, I like #2! Also, the player could get an increased mood buff whenever they wear a new outfit (it always makes me feel good in real life), or when they change their appearance in vanity.

  • What about folks who wander around without any clothes on?

  • #3 makes me laugh. :) good one.

  • people who wander around without any clothes on can keep on doing that.

#2 is variable. mood could drop, sure, but another option is the clothes themselves to acquire brown speckling here and there.

i suppose naked people could acquire the same "dirt speckles" until the point where they take a shower of bath.

  • I like this idea a lot.
and for the shower/bath: a good use for the 'Soak' option on a watering can :D

  • Hehe. Maybe only someone else could soak you? So if you saw someone dirty, you could clean them?

  • Showers should be public and work something like a drive through car wash. Haven't you always wanted to get scrubbed down by those big rotating brushes?

It is a bit of a personal fantasy of mine.

  • Sprinklers!

Water your garden (all patches at once) with a sprinkler.  Run through the sprinkler to get wet/clean body/wash clothes.

  • No, please no. I hate having to change my outfits. I pick what I like most and then I stick with it for ages. Or forever.
The only way I'd agree to having to take off my clothes if I could have 2 sets of similar outfits.

  • i like the idea of having to shower...the car was idea is funny and would fit in with the game..somewhere.

but i agree with fussycat - i hate changing my clothes and i hate spending money on them too - it would eventually force people out of free and into paid play whether they want to or not and i a) dont' think that's far and b) that doesn't seem to be the intent of Tiny Speck.

  • This wouldn't force people into paid play--there are many outfits that are free, and you could always just own two outfits that you switch back-and-forth between. Maybe even just simply changing your shoes would be enough to make the avatar happy.

  • Ha Ha car wash shower things-that is so funny! I like the clothes getting dirty and cleaning them and clothesline/laundry ideas but think they would be difficult to implement.
