as a kind of user-generated content---you could type in your own message for the sandwich board.

  • love it! i actually had the same thought during one of the tests last week when Tingly was going around predicting the imminent end of the, er, the reset that's coming soon :)

i agree this would be awesome... but can be tricky with naughty players.

  • The end is nigh!

Maybe I could get "the" onto one and still have it be legible.

  • "but can be tricky with naughty players"

yeah, I thought that too, but if you can set up software that monitors chat for innappropriate content, maybe you could do it for user generated text too?

They would be pretty tiny. But I just *really* wanna wear a sammich board.

  • Th3r3 r way5 2 ge_t ar0und m0n1t0r 50ft-war3. Giving a choice of dev-written messages/pictures/symbols would work.

  • agreed. having tried my hand at building censoring (replacing naughtiness with frowny faces) software... it's just too easy to circumvent. no amount of pattern matching or creative heuristics will catch *everything*.

that being said, even pictures and symbols are tricky since the only way to allow user-generated content is to moderate it, which gets to be a drag when there's a backlog.

i agree that tiny-speck created text/imagery is the way to go.

though... what if someone has a high enough "trustworthiness", determined by either a GM marking them as such personally, or by reaching a certain threshold of "karma"... they would then be able to create their own content? just an idea.

  • I just remembered that there are other languages besides English, tough to police. I thought of whitelisting words, but it wouldn't work. "Ask about my pix w/o clothes," all harmless until you put them together in that order. Even punctuation can be made naughty.

Reluctantly, I have to admit, you are all right. And contemplating the time it would take to earn the level of trustworthiness that would allow me to put "I radiate energy...ask me how" on a tiny sammich board just makes me laugh.

Although..making them up would be fun.

  • maybe curated submissions. the devs have worked on other projects that have dealt well with the obnoxious&obscene.

  • The submissions idea is a good one. :)
