Are the vendors all male?

I realized this morning that I'm internalizing all of the vendors as male.

Obviously Uncle Friendly is male. It's harder to assert that the other vendors are male without looking again at the vendors... this might be entirely me or it might be something subtle in the artwork.

(And yes, it's hard to assert that robots and scarecrows are gendered, but somehow my brain is doing it.)

  • +1 more female NPCs, including vendors.

  • While we're at it, I'd love to see an intentionally ambiguously/confusingly gendered NPC. I don't just mean unsexed, I mean allsexed.

  • All of the chickens are female! I'm assuming butterflies are too... if not I'm never milking one again.

  • i would like ungendered NPCs. robots, &c, that are unambiguously ungendered. like self-service terminals at a market or some such :|

  • i think yeoz wants an ATM where he can withdraw his bazillions of currants.

i guess all the robot vendors are only a little bit gendered, so maybe uncle friendly just needs a wife to run the shop with. aunt friendly?

tho really why i would like NPCs was because i really like how in animal crossing there are all kinds of NPCs, each with their own personality. interacting with them was always fun.

  • I am asking this again.

I was noticing a lot of male pronouns today. I think they're all male.

  • Yes. This is bad, but it was not really planned this way: there are a few female vendors coming (including one, Uncle Friendly's wife, who has been stuck in animation for a long time because she was too complicated). Over time, there will be both gender balance and a reasonable amount of genderless vendors (just for yeoz).

  • Uncle Friendly is obviously male, and the scarecrow looks male-ish to me; I'm not sure the cooking vendor or the tool vendor are obviously gendered. So on Tuesday, it was the added text that imposed the he/him on the characters.

  • We didn't add or change the text, just the graphics (but the old, now-replaced NPC graphics were male so the text still had vestigial male pronouns). The food vendor (mushroom) looks pretty male. The tool vendor (lizard with a mask) could go either way.

  • a "bearded lady" NPC would be pretty fun, as would fake beards that avatars of all genders could don.

  • I'm voting for any future Clothing vendors to be Drag Queens.

  • I guess this gives new meaning to the phrase "alpha males."

But seriously, folks, this is worth fixing.
