The fun thing about words like those is that botany sounds like it has to do with pirates, and horticulture sounds like it comes from an anime about giant robots. Combine those misconceptions with what you're actually studying and you get Giant Robotic Pirate Plant Sex! You can win five entire internets with that combination right there.

University of Washington Seattle. I'm finishing up some basic stuff at Wichita State University, then I'll transfer there. Ethnobotany interests me, but that's not really a make-a-living sort of interest, so I might just skim that for fun rather than make it my focus. Plant genetics is primarily what I'm interested in.

At one point in time I wanted to be a paleo-anthropologist! I'm still completely fascinated by that field, but again, I think my time would be better spent in botany in the long run.

I wanted to be so many things, archaeologist, marine biologist (gripping fear of sharks and water aside), a medieval historian, a museum curator, a gardener. After doing my own thing for years and after finally figuring out what I really want to do, I'm just now thinking, "or, I could teach". There are so few good teachers here on the rural coast, I'm surprised. I'm sure there are lots of good teachers but, really, you can't find anyone to teach trigonometry?? come ON! So, I'm going to stick to my guns and focus on making sure people can survive, I mean, zombie apocalypse could happen at any time, we can't always count on super markets...

Ohh, that sounds awesome! I worked with an ehtnobotanist/ethnomedicine preservationist who would spend time in South America collecting and learning. I loved when the super long haired South Americans would come in. They had such a nice energy. I want to learn how to teach people and communities to grow and raise their own food and fibers in a sustainable manner. Later, we plan on doing that in our own little world on our little plot of land up in Canada. I'm thinking about OSU in a year or less...also getting some basics out of the way. So many things interest me but do not offer much in earning potential...such is life :)
