Come sing?

I was thinking... wouldn't it be wonderful to all sing Goodnight, Groddle together?
I don't care if whether you sing well. Will you add your voice? Listen to it www.glitch-strategy.com/wik... to learn it and get an idea of how fast (tempo) to sing it. I've had this little dream for a while, and decided it would be especially fitting now that we'll soon say "Goodnight, Groddle" for the last time. You could upload to SoundCloud, YouTube or wherever- I'd just love if we could do this together.
I'll record myself later today or tomorrow- have to leave right now.
Love you all!

Edit: Saro has made a wonderful backing track and is pasting vocals over it. Thank you so much! <3 http://soundcloud.com/saro1/goodnight-groddle-backing

Edit again: Saro's backing is not in the original key. It's in C. You can record in either, though, because Saro might make two versions. Thanks for singing, everyone! I'm so happy people are joining in:)

  • I like this. I hoped that one day I'd get a new guitar in place of my broken one and record something original for Glitch... This idea feels right. :)

  • we'll need a guide track (even the one you suggest) to sing along with or we won't sound 'together'. BUt it's  a great idea otherwise!
Posted 11 years ago by Chelseathing Subscriber! | Permalink
  • This was the original soundcloud, before Danny added the accompaniment. The graphical representation doesn't work too bad as a reference for keeping voices synched. But maybe someone could actually do the reverse and provide the accompaniment alone for this project? That could then be mashed with the original and the recorded "choir" for the final effect. :)

Edited for adding the actual link :P

  • So sing along with the guide track, or if the together thing doesn't work, we could at least all sing it. But yep, singing along sounds good.

  • I'll just start crying after the first or second line.

We'll have a whole choir of people singing through tears!

  • I don't think I could sing it now without crying. Just thinking about it is making me choke up! But I really hope the project goes well for you.

  • <3 Lelu, I was hoping you'd like it. Thank you so much for creating it- it's such a symbol of Glitch now.

I sang along to Lelu's track. It's so lovely :) Bit low for me though...
Posted 11 years ago by Saro Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Thank you Saro, that's lovely:) It's a little low for me, too. I think I'll wait until tomorrow to record in the hopes that I won't have a cold then.

I transposed it a little for this take, so it's not in the same key, but here's my try, anyway.
Posted 11 years ago by Hirune Subscriber! | Permalink
  • That's beautiful, Hirune, thank you. Yeah, I might put it in some other key as well... Lelu's is a bit low for me. We'll see.

  • I'll definitely be recording my take soon as I feel comfortable enough with the song to!

  • I've been trying to sing it but I keep bursting into tears on 'as we sing to Ur Good Night'...

  • If we do want a together version as well as our individual versions, I can make an accompaniment in a key that should be ok for everyone to sing?

    Edit:
    Done: http://soundcloud.com/saro1/goodnight-groddle-backing

Will paste some (transposed) vocals on top to see how it sounds.
Posted 11 years ago by Saro Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Update:

I've pasted the existing three vocal parts (transposed and mostly-synced) onto the backing track and put it here.

I've also put the Sibelius score, the Audacity files and basically everything I used onto Dropbox here so someone better at this kind of thing than me can have a tinker with it if they want. :)

  • Oh, wonderful!  The backing track sounds great :V

  • Anybody willing to do it should put together all the sound tracks into a video clip thing.

  • @Geekybird same here =/

  • OMGiants, Saro. I love you. That's perfect! I guess just keep adding parts over the accompaniment as people post theirs here, though... I don't know how we could actually all sing together, seeing as we're all over the world. That's wonderful. Thank you so much.

  • wow...good idea....i think having the track for the GNG music box, and try singing along with it while recording might help a lil bit with the syncing....hopefully can add my track here too

  • I would love to do this, but I won't be able to do it until Sunday or so. :S Looking forward to contributing!

  • Fern, if you actually want people to use my backing track you might want to edit it into the OP. People don't tend to read the whole comment thread!
Posted 11 years ago by Saro Subscriber! | Permalink
  • i'm sorry if this had been covered, but this sort of thing is done pretty  well if people make their recordings while watching a guide track on youtube.

you listen to your computer's audio in headphones while you record wo you don;t get feedback.

it also helps if there's some kind of conductor on the youtube track.

this was done on a massive scale with the virtual choir

    ericwhitacre.com/blog/the-v...

is that how we're goign to do this?

  • @flask, I'm quite busy atm, and also not much good at conducting. I was hoping people would sing along to either the backing track, or the version with the parts already added if they're not sure where to come in. :)

  • Well, someone had to be the first mediocre-at-best singer to want to participate in this project, and I have apparently nominated myself: soundcloud.com/bonten/gng

(Now more people have to participate to make this a REAL campfire lullaby experience.)

  • edited to say, duh, the lyrics are here:

Lay your picks and scrapers down,
    Catch the fading evenlight,
Butterflies rest in the fruit trees
as we sing to Ur, "good night."
    Fireflies glimmer, glimmer 'round all
Shimla Mirch and back to you
Bearing sparks from all the Glitchen
    Cosma, Tii and Friendly too.
To be woven in our dreaming
    Good night Groddle, good night.

  • Guys, any chance you could sing in the new key as well? I suspect the original key is too low for most of us anyway :P Transposed vocals sound kind of goofy, so I don't want to do it unless I have to!

(Fern, any chance you could edit the OP to point out that my accompaniment is not in Lelu's key for this reason)
