Can dig a patch that's already hosting a seedling.
I'm not totally sure about the context on this, but I saw a seedling and went to pet it, and instead of the normal "plant" options, I had the "patch" options. I selected "dig", and, lo and behold, I dug out the dirt around the seedling.
I'm not sure how much earlier someone had planted a seed here, but the seedling (gas plant) was smallish. I'm also not sure if the dirt regenerated with the tree or without the tree, as I didn't stick around too long.
