Temporary Game Music Compilation - Please support Danny's fundraiser for high quality versions and official soundtracks [Total: 789] Final Update: 12/11/2012

===========================================================================

UPDATE: Danny will be creating high quality compilations of game music and various official sound tracks. The downloads below are directly from the game and are not official or enhanced.

Please support the fundraiser for the official music CDs and downloads here:

===========================================================================

Quote from Danny:

I was going through all the music today and found about 4.5 hrs of music that is in the game...not to mention stuff that didn’t make it!

Most of the music as it exists is either split up into short sections and played randomly to provide variation, or designed to loop on itself.  I'd like to take the ambient sections and blend them together more organically; give all of the songs beginnings and endings; improve mixes that were rushed in order to get the music into the game; and, have it professionally mastered so that it will play well against other tracks and albums in whatever player you use.

Creating for Glitch has been an amazing experience.  I’m stoked put something together we can remember Glitch by!  Maybe even vinyl!?

===========================================================================
The following is a collection of mp3's and .wav's for sound effects and music in the game, 99% of them created by the super talented Danny Simmons and a few by Xavier Vochelle. Copyright goes to the respective owners. These files were gathered over the past year or so while playing the game.

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/f2j883r0x4qnlm6/hSMD1YHTiR/glitch/Sounds

The file names are all original as found in the game or blog so some may not be very self-explanatory but perhaps the fun part will be trying to figure out where the sound was used in the game.

If you would like to help gather the sound files, or other files, from the game, here are some methods for Chrome and Firefox.

Chrome:
1. While in the game window/tab, click the = icon in the top right corner (what previously was the wrench icon) to open a menu, then look for Tools, hover over that, and then click on Developer Tools. This will open a window on the bottom of your screen (or a separate window) showing a bunch of characters and letters etc.

2. On the top of this area, there is a Network icon. Click that and the display will switch to a list of links to all kinds of files that loaded while you are playing the game. The most common entry you may see is client.performance. In the midst of all this will be the mp3's and other files such as .swf for items, overlays, location assets etc. There will also be file names with crazy amounts of letters and numbers for avatar sprites among other things.

3. One way to save these is by clicking an entry and selecting "Copy link address", then pasting the link in a text file somewhere. Once you have a substantial amount of links saved, you can then use Firefox's DownloadThemAll add-on to quickly save these files to your computer, and also share the links if you wish.

Firefox:
1. Install the Firebug add-on and while in the game window/tab, click on the Firebug icon in the top right corner to activate it. This will open up a window on the bottom of your screen (or a separate window). In the toolbar at the top for this window, click on the Net tab, and this will display things that loaded in the game similar to Chrome's tools. Click on the down arrow next to the word "Net" on the tab name and make sure the Show BFCache Responses option is checked.

2. You'll see the same kinds of entries shown in this Net panel as Chrome's Network tab described above. Right click on the links you want to save and select "Copy Location". Then paste these in a text file somewhere to download later with the DownloadThemAll add-on, and also share the links if you wish.

  • I completely accept that I may have just missed them...  but are Music Blocks GNG and SB-1 in the list?  (If not, can someone who has them help TomC get them for us?)  Awesome collection man, thanks for doing the leg work.

    (Edit:  They appear to be in the list above, and I found GNG, but what are the SB-1 and T-1 called in the collection?)
    Posted 11 years ago by Nerd of Epic Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Nerd of Epic, yep they're on there, as well as the T-1. If you use your browser search for "Musicblock" they're all listed in that section.

    Edit: Thanks for bringing that up, turns out the SB-1 file didn't make it in the original upload, but now it's there.

  • Download Tip:
    I used the built in "Download v" thing in upper right of the Dropbox page.  (Then select
    "Download as .zip".)  That eliminated any need for link copying or browser add-ons.  The result was a roughly 459MB zip file containing 747 .mp3 files.  (Though size and file count may vary as TomC massages the list.)

    Finding Files:
    The only problem I'm having is finding some of the ones I love.  For example, the Nottis tracks are amazing, but are called "Winter" in the file names provided by Dropbox.  I eventually found them of course, but it took some digging for me to stumble into them.  That's what caused my previous question.  I accept that the files (droids?) I'm looking for are in there somewhere, but if anyone knows what they are actually called I'd love a gentle nudge in the right direction.  (Edit:  TomC replied to this already, thanks.)
    Posted 11 years ago by Nerd of Epic Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Thanks for the updates TomC.  I never would have guessed that the trumpets track was T-1 and thanks for adding the SB-1 to the pile.  Hopefully in exchange my download tip will prove helpful.  :)

  • Nerd of Epic, thanks for your download tips. Eventually if there's time I will try renaming all the files as much as possible to the Glitchian vernacular; right now still in the stages of hunting down all the missing files.

    Thanks for the tip, flask, heading to Bortola now to check.

    Posted 11 years ago by TomC Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Having not downloaded the individual files thus far, when I went to grab the 4 new "Forest 70" files, I ran into a minor issue.  When I "right-click save as" the files in the main list, I ended up with files that are about 30k each.  I renamed the .mp3 into a .html and opened one of them up to discover that it is in fact the download page for the file, not the music file itself.

    Thus, as a tip for downloading individual files (for those of us that are new to Dropbox):
    1 - Click the link of the file you want in the main list.  (Don't "right-click save as"!)
    2 - You will be presented with a Download page for the file you clicked.  Then you can click the "Download" button on the page that results OR if you want a little more accuracy about where the file ends up, you can "right-click save as" directly on the "Download" button.
    3 - This should help reduce the "this file doesn't work" problem.
    Posted 11 years ago by Nerd of Epic Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Ah that is a bit misleading with Dropbox, thanks again for the tips!
    Posted 11 years ago by TomC Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Oh, TomC. you're going to make me cry. This was a very thoughtful thing to do. Thank you so, so much! I downloaded the zip file and extracted to my Glitch folder. I'm playing Highlands variation 1 as I type this. I am beginning to understand what the expat experience is like as I find myself finding ways to preserve as much of the Glitch experience as possible. Having the music really makes a difference. Thank you so much for your kindness! (And Thank you TS for letting TomC do this!)

  • Thank you so much for this - do you know if this includes the Illmenskie Deeps music - I tried to download as described above but didn't see any mp3 files to click on in the guts of the web browser. I really appreciate the efforts of people like yourself as it makes the ending much easier to bear. And I could really work to the music in Illmenskie Deeps!

  • Thanks for feedback everyone!

    zachwulf, you're right, those two mp3's were missing! I will add them in soon. Also found a revised version of Cloud Theme from the tutorial to upload soon.

    SmiVan, yes the Urwok named ones are Balzare/Roobrik.

    JarkWoman, yes the Ilmenskie Deeps music have the word "CAVERN" in the file names. There are 4 variations.
