Trades should pop up in a little notification
Trades should be offered as trade requests that look something like the house knocking notifications asking if you would like to trade with the other person. The recipient should be able to pick between "yes" and "no."
I think a trade window just popping up is really annoying, especially because (in some other games at least) people tend to beg by opening a trade with someone, not saying anything, and just expecting you to drop something into the trade window and then accepting.
