What does "bump" mean?
I don't get it

It's used to 'bump' their thread to the top space so more people can see it.
-
it "bumps" a thread up to the top of the page.
-
When someone comments on a thread it goes to the top of the page. Commenting for the sole purpose of moving the thread to the top is called bumping.
-
It's a way of getting more attention for a topic you think is being ignored.
Generally it's not considered a very polite thing to do with your own topics.
-
Not polite? I guess most of the Internet is impolite, then.
-
Normal and acceptable if not abused anyway..
-
I believe the word you may compare it to is "Nudge".
buwahaha.
-
so bump keeps it up there?
-
and the top of the forum posts, yes.
-
but if you reply to any forum, it goes up to the top anyway, oh wait, is it to put it up but without really meentioning/ talking about anything?
-
Exactly. Bumping is replying to a thread so it will go to the top of the forum list. ETA: jeezus, did I just fall for some scheme to keep getting this thread bumped up? <facepalm>

I'm happy to bump your question.

The 'bump' is a dance.
Normally, it's not done while wearing cargo pants. Flared or hot pants are considered more... uh... traditional.

Bumpity bump bump (why is this so amusing hehe)

If I want a thread to go back to the Top, I try to add more than "Bump" to it if it is my own thread. I have occasionally also just typed "Bump" if it is someone else's thread that I think should get more recognition. (Nudge, Nudge...)

bump: To bump a thread on an internet forum is to post a reply to it purely in order to raise the thread's profile. This will typically return it to the top of the list of active threads. It has been suggested that "bump" is an acronym of "bring up my post";[1] however, this is almost certainly a backronym and the usage is entirely consistent with the verb "bump" which means "to knock to a new position".[2] It can also be used in personal messages (PMs) or instant messages (IMs) on the Web, to return an older message to the top of the list.

Bacon Under My Pillow. That's what BUMP really stands for.
