BRB JUST SACRIFICING MY LIFE LOOKING FOR THE MAGICAL QUILL

Formerly the "If Pottermore ends up being an MMO I don't know what the hell I'm going to do with myself" thread.

I'm going to need a Time-Turner for both that and Glitch. The thought of it provokes my anxiety while producing lots of serotonin so I'm all confused, lol.

  • Ok so it says submit your email address, but it just sits there twirling!  Guess I might have to go back on the 31st July! :-?

  • It's a e-book site.

    No MMO at this point.
Posted 13 years ago by WindBorn Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Yeah, it says something about focusing on the reading of the series but... a whole website dedicated just to e-books? I am very suspicious, haha.
Posted 13 years ago by Cerulean Subscriber! | Permalink
  • If I understand correctly (and I haven't paid that much attention)...
It's digital versions of the books. But with new material (both graphically and story material).
"Extended Director's Cut," if you were.
In addition, there is an interactive element were you "experience" parts of the story as you read. So when you read about Harry getting sorted, you get sorted. Like that.

(I give props to JK Rowling for milking it for all it's worth... and, hey, if she finds it creatively rewarding, great... but part of me wants to tell her "Hey, lady! Get some new ideas!")

  • Oh hell I'd be in trouble as well, as those books have been read and reread by me about a zillion times. LOL

  • I think it'll fill a void as we 'wait'.

  • Oh great, so now I have another site to hit refresh on to see if it updates. :)

  • Woooooowwwwwwwwwww! at what Lord Bacon-o said. I'm in trouble too! I love HP! :D

    I can't submit my e-mail address though. I won't let me. :(

  • The promo video with the animated cut-outs of paper was just gorgeous.  Plus there is something about that woman, I think she could sell ice to an Eskimo...agree with Bacon-O...it's not new stuff but somehow she keeps me with her, and convinces me that it will still be worthwhile.

  • From a Yahoo! News article: "For months Harry Potter fans have been eagerly awaiting details about the new chapter of the wizard saga that launches in October. But there's no need to head to the bookstore because it's not on paper--it's online. Author J.K. Rowling is launching a website called Pottermore. Today Rowling announced on YouTube that it will essentially be an interactive social media site for Potter fans. She says she created the site to give back to Harry Potter's "muggle" followers. On the site, users will be able to share drawings and comments about all things Harry Potter and even buy Harry Potter e-books. Details about the site come after months of guessing and social media hype. For example, a YouTube page devoted to "Pottermore" featured a clock counting down to today's announcement. There is also a map puzzle called "Secret Street View," where users can enter secret map coordinates that spell out p-o-t-t-e-r-m-o-r-e (what else?)."

I do hope they develop an MMO at some point... but only after I'm well-established in Glitch, ahaha.

  • I don't think it will be an MMO. I read an article that said they will be doing a US/UK (maybe other countries) real world/real item scavenger hunt.

ETA: I should have read better... it's already live so this is old news.

  • @Cerulean, here's the article I read. Wands were the only item mentioned (though there's probably more). I'm not a super Potter fan, but I love a treasure hunt! www.guardian.co.uk/books/20...

  • I AM ALSO DOING THIS! OMFG. I have a ridiculous setup right now. I am SO PSYCHED.

    remeber, glitch buddies:

    1 galleon = 17 sickles /
    1 sickle = 29 knuts /
    1 galleon = 493 knuts

    Ollivanders since 382 BC,
    7 galleons for a wand

July 31st, 1991 (Harry's visit to Diagon Alley)
    1991 +382 = 2373

^^ That's some info from Chapter 5 - Diagon Alley, which is where JKR hinted the first clue might come from. Get the math out of the way now so you don't have to do it later.

  • Just had an idea: what if the Pottermore servers crashed from sheer volume of registration?
Or at least their emailing agent crashed.

I need to cut it with these catastrophic thoughts ...

  • I was thinking the same thing. But I don't know if a lot of Americans are going to be up at this hour. Good thing I'm an insomniac! But that does leave all of Europe and the Middle East scrambling to get in?
Posted 13 years ago by serfer0 Subscriber! | Permalink
  • *puts hand up as a scrambling European who is still waiting for confirmation*
Posted 13 years ago by DiddilyPuff Subscriber! | Permalink
  • Sometimes, serfer0, it just pays off to be a night owl!

What will annoy me the most is if Pottermore intends for us to wait a few weeks for that email.
If that's the case, I wish they would have CLARIFIED it.
