Nearest Features: a new greasemonkey script and web tool (by me)

Staff Note: The domain for this script expired, see my note below here.

-----------Original Post-----------

While Glitch was down I spent some time making a helpful little add-on to help with navigation.

Sometimes you need to find the nearest Mab shrine or nearest grocer - I made a greasemonkey script to automate this so you can see at a glance (and click to set your destination) to the nearest location that has the feature you need.  For those unable (or unwilling) to bother with greasemonkey, you can use the tool directly from my site.

Greasemonkey install script: Install

or

The tool on my web site:  http://www.tagurls.com/glitch/

A bonus feature is that you can click the feature name to see exactly where all the Spice Plants are (for example).  Some of these numbers move around a lot but I'll try to keep everything relatively up-to-date.

Hope this helps some of you!

Edit:  Updated the script since we left beta!

  • Just go to any location page and it will have a new section below Map Routing, such as http://beta.glitch.com/locations/LCRTAJK5UN124GG/

  • Can't wait to try it out! Will have to do it tomorrow though, as it is sleepy time for me tonight. :)

  • I installed this last night, and it's been very helpful! Sometimes it gives me features that are farther away than necessary, though; I was at Robenaa Range (Kajuu) and wanted a Groceries Vendor, and the script told me the nearst was in Ortolana - a whole 23 steps away. My friend looked on the in-game map and found one next door at Piyaz Prone. Maybe a "glitch" in how the script gets its data? (Maybe Piyaz Prone is a relatively new street?)

I recently moved into a house in Estevan Meadows, and the script has been phenomenal at finding me just about anything I need within two or three steps of home. I'd assume that Estevan Meadows, being more central, is also an "older" neighborhood and has been in the database longer.

Thank you for all your hard work!

  • I can't seem to get this to work in Chrome. I use Firefox sometimes to play just so I can use this script (which is so super awesome!) but I'd prefer to use Chrome. Is it supposed to be able to work in Chrome or am I just out of luck?

  • @Vortexae I believe that tagurls.com need to be inputted by manual. The newest API for locations info just added recently. I'm not sure if it'll be helpful for Poh Boy?

This script is really useful for me!

  • Same here, it doesn't seem to work in Chrome. :(

  • I paused Adblock in Chrome and it installed just fine.

I'm still not clear on how or where you enter the thing you're looking for. Does the game need to be up for that? There's nothing below Map Routing for me.

  • Would be really useful to have this updated for Salatu! :)

  • To get this working for Chrome I had to first install Tampermonkey. Chrome users, try it out and keep us posted. :)

  • could you add subways to the nearest feature steps away checker?

  • Awesome job Poh Boy !

I used the link and see a list of all locations. Is it possible to have a separate page(possibly with search) for the items+features+vendors too (pleaaase :D) . When I click on a location name, I get access to the features name available in the location. So if we need to see all the possible places a feature is available, we have to first find at least one location it is available in.

    Thanks for the greatness !

  • I've installed greasemonkey and the script, and if I go to "manage scripts" I see it there, but I don't understand what to do next.

  • TheeRobot, Go up to the map.  I think there's a drop=down menu to select which kind of feature you want to look for.
Posted 13 years ago by WindBorn Subscriber! | Permalink
  • It is just so frustrating.  There is some important thing I can't discover - like what page one has to be on to use the feature.

  • Same here. I'm tired of trying to find out how to work this.

I prefer this one and had no issues getting it to work.

  • The script appears to still be hardcoded to "beta.glitch.com" URLs.  Editing the script to use "www.glitch.com" appears to make it work again.
Posted 12 years ago by AlgernonMoncrieff Subscriber! | Permalink
  • In Chrome, installing tampermonkey and correcting the "beta.glitch.com" to "www.glitch.com" makes everything work out.
Great add-on. Saves me a lot of clicking around on the map.
Thanks for the suggestion chicgeek and Algernon.

  • I just updated the script to no longer be beta and I refreshed all the locations.  Sorry for the delay!  I'll make an option for using it with the subway next.
Posted 12 years ago by Poh Boy Subscriber! | Permalink
  • For those of you unclear on how to use this script, just go to the encyclopedia -> Locations page, then click the street you're on... scroll down the page, and you'll see a listing of stuff... find what you need, and click the street it tells you it's on, and go back to the game... your destination is now set! happy travels!
