Breaking News: Terror Plot Foiled

Attorney General Eric Holder and FBI Director Robert Mueller announced that the U.S. has arrested two men conspiring with the Iranian government to kill the the Saudi Arabian Ambassador to the U.S.

It will be interesting to see how this distracts from other stories at the top of the pile:
- Occupy Wall Street and similar protests across the nation
- President Obama's jobs plan being up for a Senate vote
- Attorney General Holder facing questions about the 'Fast and Furious' arms program

(No political judgments here, just ticking off items on the radar.)

(FYI, I'm in the news biz. If this stuff is boring or crazy-making, let me know and I'll stop.)

  • I'm especially intrigued by this plot's impact on the demonstrations, as you say. I wonder whether or not there will be an effort to break them up on "national security" grounds.

  • Well, I know the police dispersed the crowd in Boston, arresting numerous people. But something's gotta give - the protesters don't want to leave, because it would mean they've 'given up' after a fashion. Corporate America/Wall Street isn't going to change their ways. So it comes down to leveraging police for pressure (apparently, members of the NYPD can be contracted out by Wall Street firms), or someone losing their cool and resorting to violence.

The GOP candidates have firmly shown they haven't a clue, with Herman Cain suggesting they should go get jobs (um, Herm? That's one of the things they're complaining about!), and others dismissing them as everything from dirty freaking hippies to part of some grand socialist conspiracy by Obama.

I was a bit annoyed with the 'they don't have a clear message' commentary by some 'experts' and people on the street. What, it's not clear enough? Too complicated for you? Gotta have some bright shiny expert explain it to you in newsspeak/goodfacts? (I detest the trot-out-the-expert-to-tell-you-what-it-all-means style of broadcasting.)

Okay, America. Let's say you were hosting a party for 100 people. One guest arrives and eats all of the food, drinks all of the beverages, and there's nothing left but crumbs and dregs. How would you feel? Would you be upset? Would your other guests be upset? Does it make sense now? Don't we plan our social events - parties, weddings, dinners - so that people share? So that there's enough for people to say, "I had a good time."

Society works when we do. When America decides some people aren't worthy, or some people should get tax breaks on their million dollar bonuses, it's seriously broken, and we've arrived at a place we simply shouldn't be in.

  • Boston PD arrested people...  LAPD brought supplies.   This is fascinating to watch.

ETA:  I am gainfully employed.  Have a house over my head.  Have food to eat.   "Watching" would fall into a different category if I were unemployed or homeless....

  • @Pirate: The website 'Crooks and Liars' (crooksandliars.com) is accepting donations that are being directed towards buying pizzas for protesters in different cities.
