WorldsAway: the 1990s version of Glitch
Back in the 1990s, I was addicted to a very early MMO (probably really more accurately described as a virtual world) called WorldsAway that was on CompuServe. It shut down ages ago (or turned into some sort of graphical porn engine. lol) I missed it greatly but in the years since then I have not found anything remotely like it. Until Glitch.
WorldsAway had homes called turfs, and you could buy different heads and paint your body with different paints. You'd earn tokens from being in game, and you could by various items in vending machines called vendos. There was an economy based on rare items but no resource collection. What was also fascinating was the vibrant community, much like I'm seeing in Glitch, where users started different groups to help newbies. Some even created their own games (this was well before APIs as well) such as Bingo, which weren't encouraged by the developers, but just happened anyway. What I really love about Glitch is how much input and encouragement is given to users.

So I'm wondering, did anyone else play? Stoot, was WA any inspiration for Glitch at all or totally serendipitous?

- I used to work for CompuServe Pacific on their helpdesk ;) Worlds Away rocked! But I was always more of a MUD/MUSH/MOO kind of person.. until I developed a Glitch addiction!

- That's really cool. I haven't heard the word "CompuServe" in ages! I do agree with you that the community in Glitch is wonderful. I have not played any other MMOs that has such a great community like this one.
