Understandable. But why are the pig and the chicken taking cover as well?

The pig is back there in order to get a good look. Not sure about the chicken.

The chicken is fleeing the scene. It doesn't understand that something the same color as a pig should be so much taller. That probably also explains the pig's presence - although in a much more awkward way. :D
