Hmmm, I've had it for a while, so i don't think so...

Check the health of the plot in "cultivate". Carl sort of had this happen with his egg plant, and it was at 0% health. It needed to die and be replanted.

Cephalophoria's right! Once the tree hits 0% lifespan, you can't water or pet it, but you can keep harvesting until it's dead. You can also use fertilidust lite powder on it, but that's just delaying the inevitable.
