Aah, and unusually for 'rare' collectables they don't have a nominal value of 75 currants or so - they're worth what you paid for them so at least you could sell them to a vendor or donate them for (near) full value.

OPP: there are still strawberries, its just that now we get them from changing cherries with the fruit changer. Those spoiled strawberry seeds are now worth much more than they were originally though! Same goes for the rest of these collectibles, which are all worth exponentially more than their stated value. So ditto what Jessenya said!

also I believe I saw Stoot post somewhere that vendors aren't supposed to buy them back anyway...

Well the first day I bought my yeti/chick.. I curiously put it in the sell area and it DID give me the option of selling for a bit less money than what I bought it for.. Hopefully this has been fixed lol
