Can not break kitchen tool that were improved with upgrade card

I have .5 left on a saucepan, and it will not break.  Will not let me make one more item to break it.  Not sure if I repair it if it will count toward badge.

• That's odd. I got the card and every single kitchen tool in my inventory broke immediately upon the changeover to usage bars. Even one I had repaired earlier in the day.

• If you want to break something with a remnant of sturdiness on it, just repair it and interrupt the process by hitting the little X as soon as you can.  This is the only way to break some tools which by default burn a point value which is not cleanly divisible into the total.
  
  You might have to try a couple of times to get a good number.

  I'm pretty certain that I saw a staff post that confirmed repairing kitchen equipment by  more than 50% counts for the badges.
