How do batch upgrades work?

I'm not 100% sure I understand them. Does a 50% upgrade mean that for every ingredient, I get 1.5 more of the item (e.g. food)? And that the "twice as large as standard" upgrade gives me twice as many items for the same number of ingredients?

• It means you have the capacity to make more at a single go. From a batch of 20 items to a batch of 30 items (150%) and from 30 to 40 (100%).
