When did the practice of shutdown countdowns start?
I was wondering when the shutdown countdown started. After all, games don't usually close down with timers, even during maintenance. It's usually "we're shutting down in five minutes!" and then six minutes later the game abruptly shuts off and no indication was given of how much time was left during then.
I asked around a little before the game closed, and I was informed that the before the shutdown song was made sometime this year (April?), there were shutdown trumpets. Was there a countdown before the trumpets? One helpful guide informed me that they were in place since August 2010 (since that's when they started), but I was just wondering (out of curiosity) if anyone remembers when the first time the countdown happened was. Soo... anyone? ^^;
