  • Might be a serious question. It is interesting, how we're different shades depending on the areas of the world our ancestors came from. "White" people come from snow country. Dark skin in a very hot climate doesn't seem very logical at first, cause dark colors absorb heat and light colors repel it. Obviously, it doesn't work that way for skin. I had a teacher who said, everything in nature has a reason, nothing is random. Its fun to think about things like that. I'm always looking for the reason behind things, but resigned to most times not figuring it out, lol. ^,^

  • Hmm, could be that people just inherited black skin and became dominant because it helps them with the weather, or it could just be that their genes just happened to be that color and never changed... Lots of possibilities, it's interesting to research.

  • Took some excerpts from wikipedia

" Human skin color is primarily due to the presence of melanin in the skin. [....] Melanin in the skin protects the body by absorbing solar radiation. [....] Dark skin with large concentrations of melanin protects against exposure to ultraviolet light and skin cancers; light-skinned people have about a tenfold greater risk of dying from skin cancer, compared with dark-skinned persons, under equal sunlight exposure. "

Well, that's a good starting point if you really want to do a research on it.
