I've wondered that, myself.

Its a Glitch who lost a battle with the Rook, all the imagination was sucked out of him so he slowly began morphing into a Rook. He's in the awkward between stage. Note the arms that have begun sprouting feathers. Poor fallen comrade. :(

I would guess its a dead rook
