Thoughts on multi-regional and/or region-based chat? Smaller versions of Global chat with that would stream relevant information. E.g. Doing a quest that needs people, like Peter out the Peat, or a party that's happening on one street that someone two streets away completely misses out on. I was thinking of how people (it could be just me) ask for for summons on Global, so I wondered it you could ask something by shouting out a message in a specific region (kind of like GOD!). An example would be either an individual region like Bortala (where you may or may not find other Glitches, which brings me to) multi-regional chat clients, for something like the Firebog regions. It's not as magical as two people opening up a portal by digging up a dirt piles at the same time, but I'm sure it can make some quests/achievements easier and boost social interaction in game. The stream of chat would be a bit mild compared to Global, which is the main reason why I've suggested this. I would love your constructive criticism.
I think that's a brilliant idea. Ur is so big now. I don't know how many times I've felt so alone in a region and wondered if anyone else was around me. Also, think of the great opportunities in the AL.
At first, I was thinking that it should appear under Groups; if you want to talk to people in other regions, they would be part of your normal group's list which can be collapsed. That may be annoying given the sheer number of regions and having to hide your groups list.
Another method would be for it to appear as an option under Global. Simple and not too convoluted.
I'm not to sure how you'd set up the party chat thing, you'd need to find someone first. I see how the two are related, but I might not be the best way to incorporate regional chat if you're by yourself, unless you could invite a friend, but they may be in a different region (and this would depend if you had to be in a region/multi-regional chat client in order to talk to people of a certain client). Good suggestion nonetheless.
I [clearly] do not have an understanding of social dynamics in MMO's, etc. Parties have the potential to exponentially increase as people invite their friends.
Whatever kind of Chat we had would work like a Group Chat I suppose. Others would need to have the Chat open or be checking it to read what was happening. I know a new player who needs to "Peter out Pete" but could find nobody to help him in the Bogs. I wasn't online at the time. It would have been nice to have had a Regional Chat in which he could have asked for help. I guess he needs to join a Group.
There are fewer regions if instead of a chat for each "map" it is for the wider area like" Misc. Islands, Mazzala, Groddle, Grumbala (plains/highlands?), submerged, Ancient lands...so that for the region of Ur in the "topography" world overview we see there's maybe 10 chats when it's built up
That's very true, this would be waste to implement if people don't open it up in the first place... I wonder if there would be a way for it to be open by default without taking too much space and become unnecessarily annoying for those who don't want to talk. I guess if it could silently tally up the number of messages entered without making a sound. People who notice later on would get the hang of it.
Perhaps when you switch to a large region (unlike Uralia or Ix) it would give you an invite to join chat every once in a while, or disappear completely. I think that's what you meant?
@Metra, I agree! That would be great. The Map or Ur seems to be almost finished, unless it is going to expand further than the window size or the Map menu.
@Mal'akh there's a lot of things that are left to implement. I wouldn't hold your breath for further development within underwater regions just yet (aside from the essential).

I'm not sure where from, but I remember that! She's been commended 87 times.
Seems like most MMOs have a regional chat. I'd want to see it as a separate channel right below Global. I'd just have the channel tied to each Region on the map and not worry about multi-region. Some regions like Uralia or Groddle will have a lot of chatter and others like Rasana might be relatively quiet but that's OK.
