Visions of Lem?

So I've been playing for about two weeks now, and lately I've been having visions of Lem.  My screen will go kind of greenish, the bell will toll and Lem will appear like the first time I donated to a shrine, and he'll give me a message e.g. "Be good to each other and smoke it while you got it."  Do all the giants do this from time to time?  Does it mean anything in particular?
