Where do we go now - after GLITCH and FAUNASPHERE.??

Like many other players here, l was a FAUNASPHERE player. FS closed down after 2 years for similar reasons, and luckily we could take refuge here in Glitch.
So now we all have to experience another close down of a game we loved so much.

Does anyone have a suggestion for an alternative game like Glitch?
l realy hope so, so many of us can meet in another game.

Wouldn't that be great?

  • I know, right? I am going to try having a real life and dive into starting my photography business. But I suck at real life. And I have been hanging out with you guys for going on four years. Four years! It is like I should walk away with a degree in cool games and great pals! *HUGS*

  • I am not sure I want to play another MMO.  I think ones like FS and Glitch, the funny colorful non-violent ones are the only ones that will appeal to me.  While I will miss all my friends I made in both games (and to be honest, I really don't know anymore which of my Glitch friends were FS players for the most part unless they kept their names), I am not sure I can handle more game addiction and loss.

    I know I don't want to go into a warfare/battle game.

I think I may just (1) concentrate on real life (2) play some of the many casual offline PC games I have accumulated and never played and/or finished and (3) read some of the two thousand free e-books I have downloaded into my kindle library.  Maybe I will even (4) catch up on some TV shows I have not watched in a couple of years.  But not until after December 9.

I want to enjoy the game, and my friends here, for as long as I can.

  • I'm playing Mabinogi on the side...it's the only game I found besides Glitch that lets you play and look how you want. But it still can't replace Glitches crazy style. :(

  • Somebody should write a paper on close-knit insular gaming communities and what happens when developers pander to them too closely.

    At Faunasphere and now here.

  • SmallWorlds.com is a great site for social interaction. Similar to Glitch in a lot of ways in that it's an online Flash game, lots of way to customize your avatar, huge community of people to talk to...

  • There was a small group of FSers that went to Nord to play (www.nordgame.com) last year - don't know how many are still there since many came here.  It is a non-violent game, focused on growing crops (I know, how farmville-y) / making consumables and building / decorating your personal island; while being able to visit public areas of other players' islands, and friend areas of your friends' islands.   It is java based, and they have multiple servers.

Some CONS: After the initial shininess and basic levels, it is very very grindy to get to higher levels though - higher levels unlock more options for island design, but these items also cost more coins which were difficult to earn in game (so most people resort to purchasing additional coins with RL money).  To build your island, it could get to be a bit expensive to get some of the nicer items, if you didn't watch your RL spending.  No quests per se.  Community is much smaller.  No community economy (no way to sell items to other players).  Interface was sometimes not very intuitive. Few game developed areas (most of the game is going from player island to player island).  Avatars are a bit typical of other online games - women were overly busty and men overly buff, and frankly both are bit creepy looking, IMO.  3D movement would make some players ill.  The game could get very grindy after even a little while, which would make it boring if you didn't have an active community of friends planning activities.

Some PROS: The community and mods there are pretty nice and looked out for each other.  There was usually at least one or two mods in game, if you had an issue (and they were very responsive). Full chat available; however, there are kids in game, so there was some monitoring/banning for colorful language, if I remember correctly.  Player developed parties and games (mazes, horse/car races, design contests, etc).  They also had unique ways for people to control visitors to your island, so you could set up areas for public use, other areas for just friends, further areas for close friends that only knew your passwords to get in (great for "clan" areas) and still other areas for your own private use.  Players could get quite creative in their island designs, if they didn't mind shelling out RL money for additional coins to purchase things.  Cool transportation options - horses, planes, helos, dolphins, cars.  Options for pets - dogs, monkeys, butterflies.  Options for different island background themes.  3D movement. Ability to upload a limited number of personal pictures for display.  Your avatar could actually sit, dance, go into the pools/hottubs, etc.

I'm investigating a couple of games in late alpha/early beta. I'll let you know what I figure out :)

  • I want to telly ou about my site. it is called atween.net and we should be entering into Alpha stages shortley and I would be happy to have you guys come over, I am hoping to hire a few TS'ers for the site. Now the links are not on the front page of the site yet as that is not because we want to make them avaliable yet but I assure you this is not an MMO (yet, i am thinking about branching out into that eventually) it is a virtual pet game. I might be able to get a 5000 pounds grant to help with the site.

    Love you guys :)

  • I did play Mabinogi for a while. But now, I don't think it's nice to play unless you're very advanced at the game or have a lot of real-life money to spend. All the events involve buying things with NX (real-life money) or just...grinding.

It's beautiful, and it has a beautiful storyline and beautiful locations and beautiful NPCs, and I missed it so much when I quit, but I don't recommend it anymore.

(Also, it has fighting. So a lot of people wouldn't like that.)

I don't know, really. I feel kind of empty.

  • Well I'm with the rest of you here.  Roughly 4 years in 2 games!  I did play Wizard 101 in the early Glitch beta days when it was closed often, but very easy, needs money to play the full game, has lots of kids (really designed for kids tho).  I finished all the quests so gave up on it.
It's going to be heartbreaking to say goodbye again to a great bunch of people.  We can but hope Wandering Confusion finds us a new home.

  • I have been playing Onverse for two years. I go there to relax and enjoy the gorgeous graphics. I have a beautiful estate and guest home. So many rooms! I have decorated the estate grounds with indoor furniture, lighting, hot tubs, swaying flowers, firepits, huge trees, etc. They are working items, and the avatars can use the furniture. I have a hoverboard, giant pig, giant turkey and magic carpet to ride while collecting player points to buy things. Only thing missing is company, I know no one! Beach homes, castles, lake cottages and moon homes are available residences, oh ya high-rises too.Quests are available and hunting for player points is fun.

On the moon player points are hiding in flying eyeballs and moon rocks. They are in pop up bunnys and rocks on the beach. In the forest they are in giant mushrooms and brightly colored snakes.

Although there is no planting I do have pets that run around with me. Its not Glitch, but the graphics are beautiful and I could really use some company! I am also Priscilla Parsley :)

  • I am so so sick at heart about this. I, like you my dearest bud Jule (xoxJulie to the rest of you), can't even think about it. And as you so perfectly put it, Mistress Of Fishies, I suck at real life. So many failures, can't think of one thing that I have ever done well for long - and now with my health failing there is no chance to do much more. But as others have also said in this thread, we have each other. That is the only encouraging thing I can think of to say. I can't cry even - I am just sitting here with a sick pit in my stomach and anguish in my heart of hearts. Our little world gone - all the beauty and humor and amazement at new places - my little home - my little Glitch (the ideal me), not to mention my truly FABULOUS wardrobe (the one joke I can make today) - ALL... G O N E . My heart is breaking. :'(

  • There's a game called  travians. Its a solo game/social game. Its weird to explain. But you have a map with your own house, resource nodes, town and your own personal "story"/ Then, also on your map, you can connect to other players and visit their houses, groups and guild lands.

You earn social points by eating, bathing, playing mini games, trading and dueling other players and you get more if you do it during the bonus times that they have at different times during the hour.. Social points are used to buy housing and furniture. It's a pretty cute game.

I have 5 invites to the game. Feel free to sign up on your own, but if I invite you I we both get resources and more social points!

edited to add the link I forgot. Note, Travians is NOT a empire building game. Its a fun, socialy type game :). Its just made by the makers of Travian.

  • How about puzzle pirates thats a cool game. It doesn't really have any violence sure your a pirate and have cannons but the action is all done through mini games. The house and ship customization is realitivly nice all the items are pirate themed but you can still create some nice houses. The biggest problem with the game though is that the devs don't really pay it much mind anymore. They release a new ship every month but it costs real money.

Or we could all just move to neopets :DDDDD

  • I tried b3achy's suggestion of nord and the analysis was spot on. Great community, but becomes grindy pretty fast.

    I will try Onverse next.
Posted 11 years ago by Mal'akh Subscriber! | Permalink
  • I tried Nord a while ago and I agree with the above. I love that you can design your own island to be pretty much anything. But its is VERY grindy.  It got better when you visited someone with a leveling garden, though.

  • I also play onverse (gadzooks there too).  But mostly for the home decor part.  I really like games with quests and exploring, not fighting.  I tried everquest, buts it way too complicated.  I just started runescape and thats not too bad.

Also I am playing another game thats in alpha.  Its called Antilia
Its pretty bare bones right now.  The graphics & world are similar to Onverse.  The characters have animal & human features and are very customizable.  So far you have the ability to learn to fish, cook, mine & create weapons from what you mine.  There is fighting but only with the wildlife (so far only one creature)
    PROS:
    -Free
    -other players are very helpful,
-game creator is almost always playing at the same time, and super helpful
-world is fun to explore & beautiful
CONS: The skills all take a long time and thats done on purpose.  For example to cook a fish takes a few minutes and if you walk away, you could burn your fish.  However this leads to more player conversations while sitting by the fire.
-The community does have some "interesting" players (lets just say they like their furry personas) But that wasn't obvious until i started reading some bio pages.
-The controls & inventory are a bit complicated to get used to
-Since its in alpha, there are limited times to play.  In the last month, the game has been open every weekend, but from the forums it looks as though it used to be much less.

PRO&CON: small group of devs...maybe some people at TS might want to contact the creator?
-must download the client-takes a long time the first time, makes my computer run pretty hard (sorry not sure what the correct tech term is) so might no be playable on olders pcs or netbooks.

If anyone joins let me know in this thread.  My in game name is weird (assigned by game sort of)

I would love to hear anyone else's suggestions for exploring type games. (with less or no combat)

But what is really breaking my heart is the fact that (some) TS stffers are losing their jobs right around the holidays.

December 12, 2012 would have been an awesome date on which to end. Very much keeping in the spirit of Glitch! XD
