“Come play this game,” Ox said to me.
“I know you’ll like it; I guarantee!
There are so many things to do,
and some nice people to hang with, too.”
So, what the heck, I thought, I’ll try.
This game called “Glitch” sounds kind of fly.
Maybe it will distract my mind
from my troubles with the daily grind.
Wow, my own street and my own house.
Now, this is what I’m talking about!
Then things started to really whirr
as I explored the wonders of Ur.
I customized my avatar,
the cutest little Glitch, by far.
With blue skin and a head full of curls,
Foxy Moxy (mother of Oxy) was ready for the world.
Right away, Oxy’s friends welcomed me
and gave me lots of stuff for free.
I’d never played this kind of game;
I was slow and my jumping was lame.
But I learned to navigate and
access resources of the land.
I petted, I milked, and I mined.
I cooked and planted and drank dead wine.
A subway to ride, streets to walk,
a magic rock and a butler who talks,
Shrines to the giants who imagined it all,
and quoins hidden in trees so tall.
I earned badges and learned skills.
Milestones were reached and quests were fulfilled.
And through it all, I made good friends
and had great fun I hoped would never end.
Just when I thought it couldn’t get better,
new lands appeared, some hilly, some wetter.
Feats in which all could participate
designed to make us interrelate.
Look at me; I’m halfway there:
level 30 with time to spare.
After all, I’m in no hurry.
I really want to savor the journey.
Then Tiny Speck lowered the boom!
The game we all love is doomed!
On December 9 it will all end,
so pack your bags and hug your friends.
A terrible sadness ensued.
Each stage of grief was given its due.
When acceptance came, one thing was clear:
We have to keep what is so dear.
“Hey, friend, what is your real name?”
“Let’s try to find another game.”
“Can I save my looks and my stats?”
“Oh my God, what about my snaps?”
I just want to make the best
of what little time we have left.
And when I get sad, you know what?
I’ll rock on my feet and scratch my butt.
Thanks, TS, for a great ride!
Thanks to all my friends for making it so special!
