It was tricky, Mz. You have to place them while in other mode (like the basic, un-upgrade state). When you switch them to the fountains, they'll stay where they are (as long as you don't try to move them).
Well, I expect to come home some day and find my fountains lowered. But that's okay. Either they will pour behind the icons or I will set some fish bowls on the ground for them to pour into.
