This reminds me of a book I read once. The trees grew in air, so to speak. The water was floating as if in zero gravity so some areas of the trees were submerged and others not. Good book, though I don't recall ever finishing it.
Deep ponds in trunk hollows or bowl shaped leaves or flowers. There are real life equivalents, on a smaller scale. There is a tree frog that lives in water - up a tree!
