Noooooooooo! The forums are the voice of Glitch, they show the passion and love of the Glitch community. The forums show just how special the Glitch players were! Please Please Please keep them as a record, even as a link in the encyclopedia. The forums are the encyclopedia of US, it seems wrong to delete it as the community was such a strong element of the game.
That's really unfortunate. As I said in the original thread, the forums are the only real online record of Glitch over time, and without them, you're left with just a final snapshot of the world.
I'd hope that stoot and everyone still working for TS would be prepared to reach out to Jason Scott or someone else at the Internet Archive to provide them with some kind of static archive, otherwise the only way to preserve this record will be to scrape the forums and public groups between now and the 25th.
Hey all. I'm working on archiving and mirroring the forums before they go offline. Not sure I'd be able to go through the Groups, too, in the same amount of time. I'll post an update on this thread once I've got a link to the mirrored site.
Just as a quick poll, would most folk want to see the forums exactly as they are here, or have the information organized another way?
Hearts to all, great to see so many Glitchen sticking it out til the end.
The archiving of the Glitch forums has been completed, and in much less time than I expected. I'm still working out where exactly it will be hosted, but rest assured, I will have that information here within the next few days.
Since there's yet more time, does anyone have suggestions of other things to archive?
Good to know you've archived things, Lead. I honestly got too broke up when I heard it was closing to even play the game those last few weeks and its been hard to spend time on the forums. But when the semester is over for me I would like to go through the games people said they have migrated to and find something new. I'm glad I'll have the option in the future.
I am still in the process of compiling all the forum information. As I am unsure of when the site will go down, I am posting a link to a zipped (but incomplete) version of the forums here. It has a vast majority of the content, but is missing a few pages here and there. I will be working most of tonight to make sure these are all saved.
In the future, I will be posting a complete and online version of the forums (and lots of other goodies) to my new site, Glitch Archive. The site is still in its infancy, but you're welcome to register as a user, and I'll make sure to email you as I add more. I hope to add a lot within the next few weeks (but tonight, I'm a little more focused on archiving Glitchy things before they're gone!) A site like this can't replace what was lost, but I hope to provide some comfort to those who miss their Glitchen home.
I will be posting the above information on the various Glitch announcement pages scattered across the web (Glitch Forums (meta!), Facebook, Google+, Gathering of Lost Glitchen, etc.). If you have any questions or suggestions let me know!
It's been a pleasure sticking around with you, my fellow Glitchen.
